Unmasking your beauty
Taiwan’s Dr Jou launches a series of facial masks containing essences of hyaluronic acids.
SOME women leave on facial masks for a minimum of half an hour while others, strictly between 15 and 20 minutes. The question is how long should a facial mask – which helps to treat dehydrated, dull or sensitive skin – be on the face?
Taiwan’s Dr Jou Biotech chief executive officer Dr Jou Jun Xu says facial masks should be left on skin for no more than 15 minutes.
“Facial masks help to hydrate and rejuvenate skin. If left on for a longer duration, the mask tends to dry up. In some cases, masks suck out moisture from the epidermis, leaving skin dry,” says Dr Jou after the launch of a new series of namesake beauty masks.
Dr Jou is a clinical doctor and chief research consultant of Dr Morita, a popular Taiwanese beauty brand. He is the third generation of the founding family of Dr Morita.
Mask sheets should be applied from under the eyes, and gently spread out over the face, he advises.
“Most women apply mask sheets from their forehead to chin. It is best to position the mask from the eye socket and spread it evenly across the face. This way, the essence can be evenly distributed across the face,” explains Dr Jou.
Dr Jou sheet masks comes in six ranges – Hydra mask, Whitening mask, Brightening mask, Revitalising mask, Soothing mask and Luminous mask.
The masks combine potent essences of hyaluronic acid (HLA). Each variant comprises six synergistic essences made up of sodium hyaluronate, hyaluronate sodium hyaluronate, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, hydroxypropyltrimonium hyaluronate, C12-13 alkyl glyceryl hydrolyzed hyaluronate and sodium acetylated hyaluronate.
“Masks are formulated with different HLA essences to target different areas of skincare concerns. These are a technologically advanced range of facial sheets with high concentration of active ingredients to provide effective results for different skin conditions,” Dr Jou explains.
The products contain ingredients such as bird’s nest, squalene, Vit B5 and roselle. Masks are made for Asian women between the ages of 20 and 40.
Although the masks combines HLA essences and potent ingredients, the aesthetics doctor explained products are gentle enough for daily use. For added results, gently massage skin after removing the mask.
“This helps essences to further absorb into skin. This can be followed with or without your regular skincare regime,” adds Dr Jou, citing Hydra mask as his favourite mask. This particular mask is suited to dry skin. It is best used before make-up to hydrate and moisturise skin.
When asked the difference between masks in bottles and facial sheets, Dr Jou explains: “Facial sheets are the better option as it retains essences in a sealed pack. Essential ingredients are kept fresher with lesser chances of being contaminated.
Each box comes with five facial mask sheets and is available at Watsons stores nationwide.
