Alleviating sinus woes
KAREN has had sinus issues since she was 10.
By the age of 18, her mother became worried for her studies – although she was a bright student, her sinus attacks frequently robbed her of her focus.
She would wake up each morning sneezing nonstop and when she came into contact with dust, a sneezing fit would ensue and her nose would run profusely before being blocked – as a sensitive nose is easily inflamed.
In reality, dusty or cold conditions do not cause the problem; they are triggers that set off the affliction.
The root of the problem is allergic rhinitis – a hypersensitive immune system.
The nose is linked to the immune system, which when hypersensitive, reacts to dust or temperature changes, while such conditions pose no problems to the average person.
Not only is the nose affected but the eyes become itchy, red and watery, the ears would experience pressure, and the throat might itch and produce a dry cough – all because these organs
form an interconnected network with the nose.
During this affliction, the immune system may not be functioning optimally, leaving the body susceptible to infections.
This condition roughly affects about 20% of the population and up to 40% of children, with a third of them developing sinusitis before the age of 10. The Allergy and Asthma
Proceedings journal reported in 2007 that children suffering from sinusitis experience sleep disturbances, compromised learning performance, behaviour and attention deficits besides reduced participation in social activities.
Although drugs such as antihistamines and steroidal nasal sprays help treat symptoms, they do not address the hypersensitive immune system.
This leaves the immune system in an overactive state and the problem will recur.
But thanks to naturopathic science, it has become possible to live life normally once again.
Lectranal is a natural, activated astragalus root extract formulated by scientists in Zagreb, Croatia.
Research published in the journal Phytotherapy Research demonstrated that Lectranal has the ability to help relieve sinusitis after a treatment duration of two months.
Lectranal is shown to be able to modulate the hypersensitive immune system back to normal functioning mode.
It helps calm hypersensitive immune systems from going out-of-control each time it encounters an allergen such as dust or temperature changes.
In time, the nose will learn to differentiate between harmful and harmless substances in the environment and not overreact indiscriminately.
The effects, however, take time, during which, palliative treatments should still continue. After about eight weeks, patients should see a reduction in the frequency and severity of symptoms.
The recommended dose is one Lectranal capsule twice a day.
Karen’s mother found Lectranal online and decided to get it for her, as she preferred herbal remedies over medicines, particularly one with a good safety profile.
While the effects were slow in the first three weeks, week five saw Karen noticing her nose has been less runny less.
Three months later, Karen realised she could smell her mother’s cooking, something she was unable to do before.
