Time to book
THE guest list for the wedding of the year has officially been decided: Britain’s Prince Harry and his fiancee Meghan Markle have already sent out their invitations.
But don’t worry if you haven’t received one – you can still travel to London to join in the festivities.
However, tourism officials advise booking your accommodation as soon as possible, because hotels near Windsor Castle, where the pair will tie the knot, are already virtually booked up for the days around the May 19 wedding date.
It could still be worth looking a little further afield, though – according to Visit Britain, there are regular train services between London’s central Waterloo station and Windsor, with the journey taking about an hour.
Round-trip tickets to Windsor and Eton Riverside, the closest station to Windsor Castle, cost about US$28 (RM106) per person. Tickets can be booked via the online platform Trainline.
There are still rooms available in every price category in central London, as well as in the area around Heathrow Airport, which is not too far from Windsor.
If you want to stay from May 18 to 20, for example, you can expect to pay about US$120 (RM456) a night for a twin bedroom near the airport.
The wedding ceremony will begin at noon and will take place at St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle, shielded from public view by the high surrounding walls.
However, straight after the ceremony, Prince Harry and Markle will embark on a two-mile carriage procession from the chapel through the town of Windsor. – dpa
