A glitzy reveal
The on-going 2018 Bangkok International Motor Show is expected to draw more than 1.6 million visitors and see some 40,000 orders for vehicles.
ORGANISED by Grand Prix International PLC, the 12-day Bangkok International Motor Show, uses the “Revolution in Motion” theme for its 39th edition.
Held at Challenger Hall 1 – 3, Impact Muang Thong Thani from March 28 to April 8, the show has consistently attracted high number of participants and visitors.
Dr Prachin Eamlumnow, who is the CEO of Grand Prix International and the organising chairman of the motor show, said: “It is the top motor show in Asean, and is certified by OICA (Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles) and listed on the global motor show calendar.”
Since 1992, the annual motor show has attracted between 1.59 and 2.1 million visitors at each edition.
In the last five editions, it drew 1.6 to 1.78 million visitors.
“There are 29 automotive marques at the motor show including the leading Japanese brands like Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Mazda and Suzuki, as well as Korean brands Kia and Hyundai.
For European and American brands, this year we have Audi, BMW, Bentley, MercedesBenz, MINI, Jaguar, Porsche, Land Rover, Volvo, MG, Ford, Maserati, and Chevrolet.
This year, there are 15 motorcycle brands joining the show such as Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Harley-Davidson, Triumph, and Royal Enfield,” said Dr Prachin.
Also, the auto parts and accessories entrepreneurs’ association of China is participating in the show for the first time.
Dr Prachin said the booth designs and construction materials at the Bangkok Motor Show are of international standards.
“We are among the top five in the world when it comes to the construction and design of motor shows.”
Last year, a total of 36,093 vehicles were booked at the motor show, consisting of 31,031 passenger cars, 4,043 motorcycles and 1,019 electric sub-compact commercial vehicles.
Dr Prachin pointed out that MercedesBenz saw 2,090 bookings at the 2017 edition, which contributed significantly to the German premium marque’s record Thai sales of 14,484 vehicles last year.
“Our top record was 43,000 vehicles sold at the motor show a few years ago, after the Government introduced the first-car buyer scheme,” said Dr Prachin.
