“IN sleep he sang to me, in dreams he came. That voice which calls to me and speaks my name.”

Opera fans will recognise that line immediately.

Well, you don’t actually have to wait till you enter slumberland to meet the Phantom of the Opera.

Just close your eyes and let your spirits soar with An Evening With The Phantom Of The Opera, which is set to play at the Manhattan Ballroom, Berjaya Times Square Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on April 18.

The iconic musical by British living legend Andrew Lloyd Webber, which opened in London’s West End in 1986, and on Broadway in 1988, is arriving in KL to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its Broadway debut.

This musical concert, presented by Milestone Production in KL, features London-based Australian singer/actor Michael Cormick and Australian theatre singer Claire Lyon.

At the heart of the iconic musical Phantom Of The Opera isa love triangle between opera singer Christine Daae, the mad genius Phantom that lives in the opera house and Raoul, the Vicomte de Chagny.

Both Cormick and Lyon have played the musical’s leading roles – Raoul and Christine – in previous Phantom Of The Opera productions. In KL, they will be singing the popular tunes from the musical. You can start brushing up on the lyrics for Music Of The Night, Phantom Of The Opera and All I Ask Of You.

This 75-minute show is helmed by musical director Bernard Walz, who is also known as Australia’s premier “Pops” pianist.

Lyon, a popular name in Australian theatre circles, has played the role of young soprano Christian Daaé in the world tour of the musical from 2012 to 2015. She also understudied and performed the same role in the musical’s sequel Love Never Dies for the Australian national tour.

Lyon’s other stage credits include The Pirates Of Penzance, in which she starred as Mabel, and Jersey Girls.

As for Cormick, the actor’s career spans throughout Australia, Britain and Europe. He played Raoul in the London West End production for three years and toured with The Music Of Andrew Lloyd Webber as the principle cast, taking on the role of the Phantom.

An Evening With The Phantom Of The Opera will also feature songs from other musicals and a portion of the proceeds from tickets sales will be channelled to the Tuanku Ja’afar Educational Trust.
