Exciting TV events in April
IT’S April and that means your favourite US fall TV shows are slowly winding down its season. Here’s a list of new and returning TV shows to fill the void in the meantime.
Doppelganger
Li Wei meets a wealthy businessman Rui Ming on a cruise ship who looks just like him. When the cruise gets into an accident and Rui Ming dies, Li Wei assumes his identity. He pretends he has had a memory loss and tricks Rui Ming’s wife into believing he is her husband. The 20-episode series marks the first time Christopher Lee and Fann Wong (a real-life husband and wife team) are acting together since 2009.

Disoriental
Having lived in Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and India, Australian stand-up comic Jon Atherton often incorporates his encounters with diverse cultures in his material. This 60-minute special was shot in Kuala Lumpur in February. So, we wonder what he has to say about Malaysia.

The Resident
New medical series The Resident follows the ups and downs of life as a trainee doctor in Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. While there have been numerous medical shows made in the past, the actors leading the cast is what I’m most excited about. This will be Emily VanCamp’s first TV role since Revenge ended in 2015. And fans of The Good Wife or Gilmore Girls will recognise Matt Czuchry as Conrad Hawkins, a brilliant but arrogant doctor. Hmm, seems to be a pattern.
The Resident airs every Friday at 10pm on Foxlife (Astro Ch 711).
New Girl Season Seven
Can you believe it’s time to say goodbye to New Girl? The seventh and final season of the comedy about four young adult housemates takes place three years after the events of Season Six. It’ll be nice to see how these characters turn out as they enter a different phase in life. Oh and another thing, there’ll be only eight episodes (instead of the usual 22), so savour every moment. Starring Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson and Max Greenfield.
New Girl Season Seven premieres April 11 at 9.30pm on Foxlife (Astro Ch 711).
Lost In Space
Set in 2046, the reboot of the 1965 sci-fi series Lost In Space sees the Robinson family accidentally landing in an unknown planet. Relationships are tested as they try to navigate through the dangerous new environment they find themselves in. Starring Toby Stephens, Molly Parker and Taylor Russell.
Lost In Space premieres April 13 on Netflix.
Westworld Season Two
Details are so scant about the second season it’s making us want to watch it even more. Westworld centres on an amusement park which fulfils its high-paying guests wildest fantasies. The only thing we know so far is a new section of the amusement park, the Japanese-themed Shogun World will be introduced. Starring Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden and Thandie Newton.
Westworld Season Two premieres April 23 at 9am on HBO (Astro Ch 411).
