LAST year was another recordbreaking year for Brickfields Asia College (BAC) as 48 students from its United Kingdom Transfer Degree Programme (Law) attained first-class honours degrees from 10 of its prestigious partner universities.

This is the highest number of first-class graduates ever from a single institution and brings the total number of BAC’s first-class graduates over the past six years to 181. Such outstanding results are a testament to the quality delivery of the programme at BAC.

These high standards are maintained by the consortium of partner universities and the external examiner for the course, Prof Martin Dixon of Queens’ College at University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

Another remarkable achievement for BAC last year was from one of its law students, Liew Zhi Hong. He achieved a first-class honours in the University of London Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme. He was the only student to be awarded a first-class honours degree in Malaysia last year.

A-Levels education

The A-Levels is the world’s most recognised pre-university programme. BAC provides a wide range of subjects in the arts and sciences and offers students the option of choosing either the express route (11 months) or the standard route (18 months).

Since 2012, a fair number of BAC A-Levels students have received the Top in the World Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award for their excellent results.

Foundation studies

BAC offers the Foundation in Arts programme that focuses on interdisciplinary studies. The programme provides an alternative route that forms the base for any education pathway.

This is a comprehensive programme designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a degree in law or its related fields.

This course gives students a solid grounding in core legal subjects such as criminal law, contract law, tort law and the English legal system while also developing skills to help students succeed in almost any career.

Law school

BAC has the widest range of law programmes in Malaysia at pre-university, bachelor’s, postgraduate and professional levels.

The LLB (Hons) is recognised as a qualification for the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) and the Bar Professional Training Course. Students can choose to complete their degree locally through the University of London’s international programmes.

With 177 first-class graduates over the past six years, 12 consecutive Tun Hamid Omar Awards for Best Overall Student in Malaysia, 66 out of 84 Book Prizes and 74 out of 100 secondclass (upper) graduates since 2005, BAC’s track record in the CLP demonstrates the college’s commitment to provide an exceptional educational experience.

As an alternative to law, students may also choose to pursue courses under the UK Transfer Degree Programme (Business), UK Transfer Degree Programme (Accounting) and the Aberystwyth University BSc (Hons) degree programmes. BAC is dedicated to transforming lives through education. Its mission is to provide a complete education ecosystem that creates real impact by producing global graduates with skills that transcend cultural and geographic borders. This ecosystem focuses on four areas – student services, professional development, lifestyle and skills – that give students a strong grounding to navigate the Fourth Industrial Revolution, develop soft skills and creativity, and instil confidence to ride the wave of change in an increasingly globalised environment.

The BAC Education Fund grants financial and merit scholarships of up to RM10mil to assist deserving students in achieving their dreams.
