THE art of delivering messages to a mass audience in a captivating audiovisual package is a complex process.

From traditional radio transmissions to the variety of social media content all over the Internet, technical skills in broadcasting are essential in delivering these messages.

With close to five decades of excellence in providing quality and affordable higher education, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) understands that students of its broadcasting programme must adapt to the needs of the industry today.

Therefore, TAR UC’s Faculty of Social Science, Arts and Humanities (FSAH) has taken its Bachelor of Communication (Honours) in Broadcasting to the next level by offering a dual-award programme in partnership with Coventry University (CU) in the United Kingdom.

Broadcasting students taking this dual-award programme can spend their second semester of their second year at CU or opt to complete their semester locally.

Upon successful completion of the programme, students graduate with two degrees – one from TAR UC and one from CU.

With both qualifications, TAR UC graduates have an edge over others in their careers not only in Malaysia but abroad as well.

Since 2014, the strategic partnership between TAR UC and CU has paved the way for TAR UC students to obtain dual qualification in the areas of finance, business and management, with the FSAH broadcasting programme being the newest to experience this privilege.

Ranked the 12th best university in the UK by the Guardian University Guide 2018, CU is gaining recognition in the UK and internationally for its excellent teaching quality.

In addition, 97% of CU graduates were employed or pursuing further study within six months of graduating thanks to CU’s strong focus on providing hands-on education with a global perspective that is highly prized by the employers.

CU is located in Coventry City in the heart of the UK. The city prides itself on its cultural heritage, friendliness and affordability, which resulted in it being voted the fifth best UK city for students and 39th best student city in the world in the QS Best Student Cities Index. TAR UC’s broadcasting students can greatly benefit from the exposure to cultural diversity that CU offers.

“It is definitely a different experience living and studying abroad. Our students attend the same classes as other international students in CU, so they are exposed to new environments and cultures there,” says Pushpavalli Maniam, programme leader for Bachelor of Communication (Honours) in Broadcasting.

“This once-in-a-lifetime experience is something that will be useful for their future careers, especially in the media industry.”

TAR UC’s first cohort of Bachelor of Communication (Honours) in Broadcasting students under the dual-award programme with CU were in the UK from September last year to January this year for their onesemester experience.

Attractive scholarships such as academic merit and sibling discounts are available from TAR UC for eligible students.
