Vision of global success

-

THE vision of being a global university of educational excellence with transformative societal impact has led Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) to be agile in facing new frontiers and responsible in its pursuit of excellence.

Over the years, the Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) has been a provider of business and finance knowledge and has become UTAR’s biggest faculty, with eight undergraduate and three postgraduate programmes.

The May 2016 trimester also saw the implementation of three double degree undergraduate programmes: business administration and psychology, construction management and entrepreneurship, and entrepreneurship and public relations.

Currently, there are over 5,100 students enrolled in UTAR’s undergraduate programmes.

At UTAR, students are taught to turn challenges into challenges, in line with its mission – tenacity in overcoming challenges.

The undergraduate programmes have attracted local and international students and ensure an employability rate of 95% within six months of graduation.

For those wanting to further their business and financial acumen, postgraduate programmes such as Master of Philosophy, Master of Business Administration (Corporate Management) (MBA) and Doctor of Philosophy offer the right resources.

The FBF programmes incorporate soft skills competency and are implemented with strategic plans.

“The strategic plans aim to enhance and maintain the high standards of the programmes, develop and implement research strategies and intensify collaborations with local and international industries, as well as professional bodies,” said FBF dean Dr Au Yong Hui Nee.

FBF programmes are recognised and accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and the Ministry of Education.

FBF also collaborates with prestigious professional bodies such as the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia and the Malaysian Association of Company Secretaries. Such collaborations enable students to obtain handson industrial experience.

Among the many achievements of FBF’s academics are being involved in the Asean Chartered Professional Accountant Coordinating Committee in 2017.

They have also been awarded the Most Downloaded Article by Elsevier’s Expert Systems with Applications journal, Top Cited Author 20142017 Award and Most Cited Article 2017 by Emerald, as well as best paper awards at various conferences and competitions.

As its programmes aim to instil the research culture in its students, FBF sees this as a gateway to establish research collaborations and projects with positive socioeconomical impact.

One example is the International Conference on Business, Accounting, Finance, and Economics (BAFE) Conference, which has been organised since 2013. Together with research centres, FBF also actively conducts research seminars, research colloquiums, research talks by international experts and professors, research workshops and research conferences annually.

UTAR has a reputation as one of the fastestgrowing private higher education institutions in the country with about 25,000 students, as well as campuses in Kampar, Perak, and Bandar Sungai Long, Selangor.

It has produced over 52,000 graduates since 2005.
