Platform to showcase creativity and talent

-

CREATIVITY is a vital part of everything we can see and touch, from food packaging to the chair we sit on and the advertisements we watch.

Most businesses use design to engage consumers with intuitive interfaces, simplified messages and streamlined experiences. Design helps to add value to products and services.

It communicates ideas and information in an effective and meaningful way and helps differentiate products.

Creative talent has always been sought after by the design industry.

Students who are studying design courses can expect to move into a wide range of roles as exhibition designers, multimedia specialists, illustrators and production designers.

Recognising this, First City University College (First City UC) is committed to meeting the demand for creative designers by producing top-notch graduates who will be assets to the nation’s growth.

Stardust Diploma Showcase 2018

This month, First City UC art and design diploma students will celebrate their graduation at the Stardust Diploma Showcase 2018 from April 18-20.

The highlight of the three-day showcase is the diploma students’ Art & Design exhibition. It serves as a platform for graduating students to expose their portfolio to their parents, friends, public and potential employers.

The theme of the showcase is expressed in the logo in the shape of a star to symbolise the students’ study journey in First City UC.

President of “Stardust” Siti Nurlaila said, “It is a valuable opportunity for the Diploma in Interactive Design students to work together with the Diploma in Interior Design students to make the event a success.

“This is also a good chance for us to showcase our achievements to potential employers. The lecturers have been my motivation to continue my studies here.”

First City UC students may commence with the Foundation in Art & Design programme.

This one-year course enables students to gain experience in practical studio work, 2D and 3D design, research, and writing.

It develops students’ skills in visual analysis, fundamental drawing, colour studies, research and critical writing skills and creates pathways for students to enrol in bachelor’s degree programmes like the BA (Hons) Furniture & Product Design, BA (Hons) Graphic Design, BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design and BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing.

Students can also choose to pursue diploma programmes if they already have a clear interest in specific programmes.

After two years of studies, students should acquire an advanced standing to continue to the second year of related degree programmes at First City UC.

The Faculty of Design & Built Environment is equipped with state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities such as a laser cutter, 3D-printing studio electronic vacuum forming machine and more.

With its legacy of 26 years, First City UC is well known for producing award-winning and highly sought after graduates.

Placing emphasis on student achievements, it showcases the students’ projects and portfolios in specially designed public exhibitions which attract potential employers, corporations and the public, where in many instances First City UC students are offered employment on the spot by industry leaders.

It constantly engages with industry leaders to expose students to the current developments in the field of design.

The institution collaborates with the Kuala Lumpur-Selangor Furniture Association (KLSFIA) and professional bodies such as Wrega (The Graphic Design Association of Malaysia) and the Malaysian Institute of Interior Design (MiiD) to enable students in the design programmes to be in touch with the profession.

Noting the importance of industry exposure, the institution pays the subscription fees for its students’ membership for the association annually.

First City UC also has an established relationship with the MiiD where students and staff are active members.
