How to get into Oxford and Cambridge universities
A PREPARATORY course called “Oxbridge Application Prep Course” will be held in Penang and Kuala Lumpur this July.
It will allow parents and students to find out more about the requirements needed to apply for Oxford and Cambridge.
Oxbridge is a portmanteau for both these two names, which are the biggest in the world of education and the home to the top universities in the UK.
The course is suitable for students in high school (Year 9, 10, 11 and 12, Forms 3, 4 and 5).
Participants will be enlightened on preparing for their application and have a clear picture on Oxbridge entry for international students by Cambridge alumna Dr Lucy Sweatman and former Oxford admissions tutor Dr Michael Brett.
They will be leading the preparation courses for the students.
These academic, experienced speakers will start off the course with a talk on “Preparing your Application to Oxbridge”, which will cover questions like:
> what are the grades required?
> what are the admissions tests required?
> what are the criteria Oxbridge are looking at?
> how should I craft my personal statement?
> how important is my extra-curricular involvement?
The speakers will also provide insights on the critical thinking and study skills required of an ace student and provide students one of the hard-to-come-by opportunities, interview skills and practice.
Parents can also hear from qualified experts such as the Abbey College Cambridge principal Dr Julian Davies who has more than 20 years of experience in supporting international students and local students into Oxford and Cambridge, and University of Oxford alumnus Jonathan Whitehouse.
Admission is free but registration is required as seats are limited.
Students can also try to qualify for the Abbey DLD Group of Colleges Principal Award.
This award can help a student gain a scholarship of up to 70% fees when studying at Abbey DLD colleges in the UK, plus the opportunity to be trained as a student leader and add value to his study experience, where one can highlight in his university application.
To qualify, candidates are required to sit for the Principal Award Test and to pass an interview. The finalised outcome and the winner will be announced by the end of April.
The Oxbridge Application Prep Course for Students and the Workshop for Parents will be held on July 28 in Kuala Lumpur and July 27 in Penang. Those interested should reserve their seats or make appointment now with ASA Overseas Education Specialist.
