Exploring engineering

-

ENGINEERING and technology have changed the way we work and how companies can adapt. It has also changed the world and helped address a variety of real world problems.

With the Fourth Industrial Revolution, better known as Industry 4.0 now under way, the world of engineering is at the gates of a technological revolution and people should embrace it.

Engineers are bound to be in high demand. Apart from technical education, engineers of tomorrow will need to embrace broader skills to succeed in the increasingly competitive industries.

The Faculty of Engineering and The Built Environment (FoEBE) at SEGi University and Colleges offers a wide range of internationally recognised diploma and degree programmes for aspiring engineers.

Three engineering students from SEGi College Penang (SCPG) won a gold medal for their innovative project in the recent iComp’Ex (National Innovation and Invention Competition through Exhibition) 2018.

Benedict Aaron Theseira, Lee Xu Yang and Ooi Kean Lee, who are currently pursuing Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at SCPG developed a hydroelectricity generator using sewage water for highrise buildings, which won gold in the Agriculture, Environment and Renewable Energy category.

SEGi’s engineering graduates are in high demand as its degree programmes are accredited by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), which is a signatory to the Washington Accord.

As Malaysia is a signatory of the Washington Accord, it makes SEGi engineering graduates more employable.

For a global learning experience, SEGi University offers BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, BEng (Hons) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering as well as BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering that allow students to articulate to Cardiff University or Swansea University in the UK in the final year of bachelor’s studies.

SEGi College Subang Jaya (SCSJ) and SEGi College Penang (SCPG) also offer collaborative degrees in mechanical engineering, as well as electronic and electrical engineering. The curriculum is developed in collaboration with the University of Sunderland, UK.

SCSJ also offers BEng (Hons) in Automotive Engineering in collaboration with the University of Sunderland, UK. The new intake is currently in progress. SEGi offers financial aid and scholarships to nurture the brightest talent and realise their best potential. Those with SPM, STPM, UEC or equivalent qualifications can apply for High Achiever’s Scholarship (HAS) or Sports Scholarships. The scholarship value varies depending on academic results and sports performance.
