Interesting ways to give your staircase a new look

-

BOrEd with your stairs? Here are some fun ways to turn your staircase into an interesting feature.

Paint the top of the step one solid colour, and paper the riser with patterned wallpaper. You can either paper each riser with the same pattern, or paper them with different patterns. If you choose to use different patterns, pick one main colour, like black or purple to unify the concept. Pick the solid colour for the top of step to compliment the wallpaper.

remove the railing and install nautical rope. Paint the staircase a nice navy and white to continue the ocean theme.

Sand and polish the top of the step and then paint the riser with coloured chalk board paint. This is great for children who want to draw indoors – and you can get them to give the stairs a new look on rainy days by asking them to draw flowers, leaves, shells, butterflies and so on.

Turn each step into piano keys by painting the top of the step black, the riser white and then adding black ‘keys’ by painting one third of the riser black. Tip: the side by the wall is best.

To be certain you get it right, Google a piano keyboard and you will see the standard is two black keys, a break, then three keys, a break and the pattern is then repeated. Copy this so that when you look up the stairs, you see a piano keyboard.

Hang pictures on the wall, with each at eye level so that you see them walking up the stairs. You can choose a theme like having the baby of the family in line with the bottom step and the eldest member of the family in line with the top step.
