For a comfy living room

-

Is your home a little too formal for comfort? Too minimalist? Or somehow just slightly chilly? Check out these tips to make your living room a little cosier.

Go for natural light and air

If you’ve got heavy curtains blocking out the sun, or you’ve fixed some shutters, open them up and let some light and air into the room. Also pay attention to your air-cond – if it’s too cold, you won’t be comfortable.

Kill formal sofas with throw pillows

A good sofa may have you sitting up with your back perfectly straight but if you want to hang out and watch TV with your feet on the table, invest in some throw pillows.

They can be big, small, soft and luxurious or fun. For example, buy pillows with big golden dragons or your favourite manga characters, just to add a bit of fun.

Enjoy nature

Plants soften harsh lines and bring some life into the room. Look for tall leafy ferns to give fresh spontaneous accents and use flowers for scent and colour.

In addition, add a little artistic lightheartedness by putting huge bunches of artificial flowers in big pots. Add the human touch

Look out twenty photos of your family and friends, have them framed and set them all on a table or dot them around the room. One fun way to add in a personal touch is to buy lots of different fun frames and to make a collage of pictures on one wall.

Mess the place up a bit

Rooms that are too tidy look unlived in, so leave some magazines hanging around and don’t be too OCD over unfluffed cushions, ornaments that are out of place, and other bits of mess.
