IT was 10 years ago when MK Pak (formerly known as Eddie Pak, whose Muslim name is Aliff Najmi) first started work on the feature Dimensi Cinta. However, due to a payment issue, he could not showcase the completed film.

At that point, Pak decided to step away from the local film industry to concentrate on TV commercials as well as working with NGOs in China to fight against animal cruelty.

Now he is ready to give it another go in the entertainment industry. Pak recently launched a new production company called Winner Dynasty Films & Entertainment that aims to produce bigger and better productions. He also plans to finally release Dimensi Cinta at some point.

“I believe you learn from every experience, good and bad,” he said at the launch. “I’ve enriched myself as a person in the time I was away.

“But I always knew I had a calling in the entertainment industry. I felt it was time to make a return ... the launch of Winner is another milestone in my filmmaking career.”

Pak started out as a director in the late 1980s – directing Chinese drama for RTM. He has also directed documentaries like Dance, The Lion, Ancient Ink, The Black Veil

and A Peranakan Wedding.

He helmed the film, Syukur 21,

as well as a short movie, Burger Boy, which travelled as far as the Cannes Film Festival.

Pak revealed that his new company is already looking at producing three films. One of it is titled Duality, a sci-fi flick with a strong female cast.

Duality writer Jason Ding said the film will use green screen and special effects to create the look of a technologically-advanced future.

“The theme of the film refers to the duality between humanity and technology. We go into production soon and plan to release the film in 2019.”
