All set for success
MESAMRAZA Asgarali Shariff, a second semester student pursuing a Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at Nilai University (Nilai U), has his academic path mapped out.
He knows what he wants to achieve and is determined to make it a reality.
“After completing my diploma, advanced diploma and the 13 European Aviation Safety Agency modules, I plan to work as an aircraft technician as a way to fill in my logbook and gain experience before acquiring my engineering licence,” said Mesamraza, who hails from Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
“After gaining enough experience, I hope to establish my own aircraft overhaul and service bay in my home city before expanding it nationwide.
“I found out about Nilai U from a family friend, who recommended it to me.”
That friend encouraged Mesamraza to visit the university’s website to find out more about its courses and facilities.
“The main reason I selected Nilai U is because after completing my Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, I can just add one more year of study to get both an advanced diploma from Nilai U and a bachelor’s degree from Kingston University, UK.”
Mesamraza added that Nilai U’s affordable fees were also an important factor.
“I love studying in Nilai U as the campus has a calm and peaceful environment, which is ideal for studying.
“The university has taught me a lot of important skills that I need for a bright future.
“Being here has taught me to be independent. I had to adjust to the new environment and learn how to manage my time, finances, sleeping and eating habits.
“I also learned to be disciplined in many aspects of my daily routine such as meeting assignment deadlines.”
Fortunately, Mesamraza was able to overcome the pressure of adapting to a new lifestyle and did not let it affect his studies.
“It was challenging to learn how to interact with the local students at first, but it became easier after I started joining clubs and societies.
“I gained more confidence and began conversing with my coursemates, which in turn helped me make new friends,” he said.
Mesamraza also joined Nilai U’s Dodgeball Club, where he was selected to join the Rookie’s League and play for the club.
Another memorable experience for him was the Leadership Camp organised by Nilai U, which he described as physically and mentally challenging, although the lessons he learnt were priceless.
“The camp helped me assess my weaknesses and strengths, as well as areas I needed to improve on to become a better person.
“It also helped to build my confidence and leadership skills.
“I would like to recommend Nilai U to my friends as I think its focus on discipline and integrity provides students with the updated skills, knowledge and information required by industries and employers,” he said.
