EMOTIONS may be running high with the elections approaching, but you can still keep cool when you head out to vote. Just dress in a comfy manner, with easy-to-wear and unfussy designs.

While the general rule of thumb is to be decently attired at polling stations, here are some additional tips on what you should wear for the polls come May 9.

Dry and light

Don clothes that will keep you comfortable. Moisture-wicking fabric makes for great wear in humid weather. Even if you sweat, the material will draw it out and dry quickly.

Also, choose loose separates that are easy to move around in. They are a lot more appropriate for later in the afternoon or evening when the temperature gets really hot.

Sportswear is an apt option. You are, after all, “exercising” your right to vote. Most brands in the market offer casual everyday designs that make use of lightweight materials.

Happy feet

You will be probably be doing a lot of standing if there is a line, so the right footwear is important. Flats or sliders are just perfect for the day, and are easy to walk in with no fuss.

Leave your fancy heels at home. The last thing you want is a sore foot from trying to rock that pair of 5-inch pumps – no matter how in-trend or fashionable the design may be.

Colour me neutral

Voters are not allowed to wear any clothes featuring party logos on them. But if you prefer to truly stay neutral colour-wise, pick clothes in nude tones, pastels and off-white shades.

Colours such as these are also cooling and won’t absorb heat as readily as say, black.

Essential accessories

Don’t forget the little things that will keep you comfortable. A paper fan for example, will help cool you off. A cap can be of help too in case you need something to keep your head and face covered when out in the sun.

Wearing a headscarf? Then make sure you choose ones that are functional. There are plenty of brands that offer modern-approach hijabs, combining both women’s comfort and style.
