Faster and easier ironing

-

DO you loathe ironing? Here are some tips to make the chore more bearable.

Think before you buy

When you’re shopping, look at the labels and choose items that need minimal ironing. A typical clothing which requires minimal ironing would be a cotton T-shirt mixed with a dash of lycra.

Hang it up

Wrinkles come from pressure so if you dump everything on top of the drying rack, you’re going to get creases and folds. Prevent these by hanging your laundry the second it’s out of the machine.

Invest in quality large hangers, otherwise you will get “pulls” and misshapened areas where the fabric drags over the edges.

Consider a garment steamer

Steamers reduce and remove wrinkles from clothes, curtains and other items. A typical machine is basically a steamer with a nozzle.

You move the nozzle above and over the item, and the steam removes wrinkles without pressing or ironing.

It takes some practice to handle the steamer but if you have a lot of garments that are hard to iron, this is worth looking into.

Buy a dryer

A lot of clothes come out of the dryer looking good enough to wash and wear. However, to be safe, look for a machine that has ironing and crease-proof cycles.

The first delivers your clothes at an almost-dry stage. This makes them easy to iron without the need for steam.

The second setting has the machine blast cooling air into your clothes at the end of the cycle, reducing wrinkles.
