Are you suited for a career in medicine?
STUDENTS may choose between two renowned medical universities in Ireland – the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) or University College Dublin (UCD) for pre-clinical years and clinical training with the Malaysian campus.
Formerly known as Penang Medical College (PMC), RCSI and UCD Malaysia Campus (RUMC), offers this unique pathway to study medicine in Dublin and Penang.
RUMC recently attained Foreign University Branch Campus status by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and is Malaysia’s first accredited private medical education institution.
RUMC is fully owned by RCSI and UCD. The degrees are awarded by the National University of Ireland and are globally recognised.
Established in 1996, the university remains the first and only full Irish university in Malaysia and the region.
RUMC is also recognised by the Malaysian and Irish medical councils for graduating high performing doctors.
September intake
The pre-clinical studies in Ireland offer quality education and exemplary medical professionals as educators in state-of-the-art facilities. RUMC students study and practise with international students from around the world.
Students then return for clinical training at RUMC and its teaching hospitals, while remaining as fulltime students of RCSI or UCD.
Scholarship applications close on May 31. Exemplary students are encouraged to apply for the scholarships to help ease the parents’ financial burden.
Medical Careers Day Penang (July 7)
After successful Medical Careers Day in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur earlier this year, the third installation will be held in Penang on July 7.
Offering guidance to participating students, the event will cover all aspects of the application process for medicine, from choosing a medical school and writing a personal statement to improving confidence with interview training and tips on how to get the right work experience.
You will hear from current medical students, alumni and doctors to gain insight into life as a medical student, speciality selection and life as a practising doctor.
Workshops and medical-based activities will be provided to students. Seats are limited and interested students who want to know if a medical career is right for them are encouraged to register early and save a seat.
Nearly 1,600 medical doctors have since graduated with globally recognised medical degrees of the National University of Ireland and practise in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Ireland, the UK, Switzerland, Malta, Australia, New Zealand, the US and other countries.
