A LUXURY RETIREMENT COMMUNITY

Consortium aims to provide a new way of living for Malaysia’s senior citizens with independent and assisted living options.

-

MALAYSIA is rapidly heading towards an ageing society and there is a pressing need to provide for its senior citizens. According to data from the United Nations, as of 2016, Malaysians aged 60 and above comprise 9.5% of the population.

Rei Seraya Residence is set to be the first of its kind in Malaysia – a luxury retirement community with the option of either Independent or Assisted Living.

Rei Seraya is a senior living project jointly developed by a consortium made up of Pelaburan Hartanah Bhd, UEM Group Bhd and Medical Care Service Inc (MCS).

The land identified for this development is located at Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur (next to Gleneagles Hospital) spanning 0.6ha.

“Rei” means “ray of light and trust” in Japanese and conveys a sense of warmth while “Seraya” is also known as Meranti – a durable wood – and imparts a sense of trust, strength, community and care.

Rei Seraya is being designed by a renowned Australian architect who specialises in senior living and once ready, will be operated by MCS, one of the leading senior living operators from Japan with over 15 years of experience and runs more than 290 facilities in Japan, China as well as Malaysia.

There are two different types of senior living units available: Assisted Living and Independent Living. The 100 Assisted Living units offer a 300sq ft-unit with en-suite bathroom within an exclusive household concept, providing medium to high care services for residents.

The unique concept centres around a communal living, dining and kitchen area to be shared by 15 units, to encourage social ties.

The type of care provided ranges from dementia, respite, palliative and day care services.

Full-board facilities include an ergonomic bed, motion sensor, emergency button, wheelchair friendly bathrooms which feature adjustable sink, handrail and shower seat.

There will be 200 units of Independent Living 900sq ft homes which follow the concept of a luxury two-bedroom apartment with wheelchair friendly en-suite bathrooms, a kitchen and a living room.

They come with a 24-hour emergency response system, concierge and reception services, cleaning and maintenance of common areas, security and internet connection. Senior care services, as well as meals, transport and housekeeping are provided upon request.

Essentially, Rei Seraya is a luxury retirement community living for seniors seeking a choice of lifestyle they desire with the necessary level of assistance.

It includes a community of seniors enjoying and sharing specialised services with other like-minded residents aged 60 and above.

Rei Seraya gives residents a chance to have their own private purpose-built home with elderly-friendly features, scheduled interactive activities and professional care services.

As we age, the lack of connection with others and a diminishing social life can cause higher depression rates as well as a multitude of other health problems.

Depression and isolation in seniors can cause sickness, high blood pressure and an increased risk for early death.

However, those who maintain an active and independent lifestyle gain benefits that boost their physical health, emotional well-being and their ability to remain independent for longer.

Rei Seraya alleviates loneliness by offering many common facilities, and year-round events and activities will be organised to enhance the quality of life for seniors.

For a sneak preview of Rei Seraya, visit Rei Seraya Discovery Gallery. The Gallery is open daily from 9.30am to 5.30pm from Mondays to Fridays, and from 10am to 5:30pm on weekends.
