THIS attraction in Seri Kembangan, about 20 minutes’ drive from Kuala Lumpur, is exactly what its name suggests – a farm-like experience in the city.
Set within an environment resembling a typical Malay kampung, Farm In The City fuses the wonders of wildlife and beauty of nature all within an urban setting.
The park – spread across an expansive 2.8ha – is divided into different sections that provide a host of experiences that involve some cute furry friends as well as other more exotic animals.
Why you should go
Being partially cageless means that visitors are able to get up close with some of the animals here. There are more than 100 species of creatures – ranging from your usual farm animals to more exotic ones such as crested porcupines, alpacas and marmosets.
Over at the free-flight aviary, visitors are encouraged to interact with an assortment of birds by feeding them. Some other animals that you can pet include rabbits, guinea pigs and deer.
For city kids who have only ever seen a live chicken on TV, this sort of close interaction will certainly delight.
What to do
The venue is divided into various different sections, each offering unique experiences with an assortment of animals. Grab the chance to feed giant tortoises at the Tortoise & Turtle Farm.
If you’re alright with snakes, then head to Reptile Cavern to get close with pythons and mangrove snakes. Kids will have a blast at the Pet Village where they can be surrounded by cuddly rabbits and guinea pigs.
Petting and feeding opportunities are also available at the Savannah. Get really close to the Javan deer and meet one of the smallest species of kangaroos, the dusky wallaby.
Catch a glimpse of nocturnal animals at the Twilight Creatures stop that houses the slow loris and owls. Before you exit, make a stop at Kampong Mahmood. There will be a performance with macaws and other animals to drive home the message of nature conservation.
Who will like it
Farm In The City bills promoting wildlife and environmental education as part of its mission. On that note, parents would be able to instill in their young children a love for animals here.
But as far as petting oh-so-adorable creatures go, both kids and adults will have a whale of a time interacting with the animals.
