Traditional village life, urban style
IT’S that time of the year again where Muslims gather to celebrate and the arrival of Syawal and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Ramadan is not only a month of fasting for Muslims; it is also a time for fostering a strong sense of community and camaraderie.
Apart from fasting together, families and friends buka puasa and pray together, which helps to strengthen both familial ties and the bonds of friendship.
With Panggung Raya as its central theme, Paradigm Mall Petaling Jaya (Paradigm Mall PJ) is inviting everyone to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri with them.
From now until June 24, the mall will embrace the ambiance and traditional decor of Terengganu kampung houses, complete with their beautiful beams and intricate details.
Fairy lights add a final touch of beauty, emulating a kampung ready to celebrate Hari Raya.
To further add to the traditional ambiance, the mall is featuring the cultural art form of the wayang kulit, with the kampung-style decor interspersed with wayang kulit-inspired details.
There will also be live wayang kulit performances every weekend from 4.30 to 5pm throughout the festive campaign, lending a true-tolife kampung feel to the mall.
Paradigm Mall PJ centre manager Tan Boon Leong said, “We are thrilled that our idea to emulate a traditional Terengganu kampung house has come together so beautifully.
“We wanted this theme for Hari Raya as we want to celebrate the simplicity of kampung life, which has family and friendships at its core.
“The wayang kulit further adds to this theme, as it is typical to enjoy a show with your loved ones.
“We also think that it is a wonderful way to introduce the younger generation to the different aspects of the traditions and cultures that we have here in Malaysia.”
To enhance the kampung experience, Paradigm Mall PJ has organised a variety of activities to entice shoppers.
Patrons will be able to watch special musical performances such as the cak lempong from the Minangkabau ethnic group every Saturday at 5.30pm and silat performances every Sunday at 5.30pm.
There will also be a Raya dance every weekend at 3.30pm, followed by a musical performance at 4.30pm.
Raya celebrations at Paradigm Mall PJ will also feature a clay art workshop, ketupat workshop and kuih raya workshop every weekend at noon.
Additionally, shoppers will have a plethora of Raya goodies to choose from as there will be a vast array of festive attire, cookies, carpets and traditional snacks on sale at the mall.
In the spirit of giving, Paradigm Mall PJ organised a buka puasa feast for Rumah Telaga Kasih on May 28.
The children were treated to a shopping spree, where they were able to choose new Raya clothes and collect duit raya.
The event was held at Pasar Baru, New World Hotel in Petaling Jaya, with the children taking part in several interactive activities such as wayang kulit and ketupat weaving lessons.
Throughout Paradigm Mall PJ’s Panggung Raya celebration, shoppers who spend a minimum of RM250 in a single receipt within the same day (excluding purchases made at Tesco, prepaid reloads, money changers and bill payments) are able to redeem exclusively designed Raya lantern along with themed Hari Raya packets.
