Raya revelry with a rustic feel
THE Raya season is back again, and Sunway Carnival Mall is celebrating it with heartwarming festivities themed ‘Wonderful Raya Memories’.
With this a time for forgiveness and starting afresh, many activities and great deals have been lined up till June 24 to bring shoppers and their families closer together.
To enhance the festive vibe and give shoppers the chance to experience what Raya in a kampung feels like, the mall has transformed its Upper Ground Concourse into a rustic village scene.
With a charming kampung house built on stilts complete with veranda and furniture, it is sure to bring back nostalgia of the olden days.
A free-standing swing will spark fond childhood memories, while the splendidly beautiful wisterias are perfect for photo opportunities.
Just follow the lighted ketupat lanterns down the path leading to the kampung house as you visit the mall.
Sunway Carnival Mall general manager Chow Heng Wah said the Wonderful Raya Memories campaign would allow shoppers to create more sweet memories with loved ones.
“The typical Malay kampung house that takes centre stage reminds us that family is forever. They are the ones by our side through good and bad times.
“Therefore, it is important to ‘buka lembaran baru’ and strengthen family bonds as everyone gets together during this meaningful season. For Raya is all about family, forgiveness, reconnecting, bonding and starting anew,” Chow said.
He added that the mall was also working with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) and Kraftangan Malaysia to bring more traditional offerings and crafts to the fore.
Furthermore, shoppers would also find a beautiful floral tunnel decorated with flowers made from crepe and art paper, sitting at the main concourse.
It was crafted by Mojo, otherwise known as Joanne Teh, a talented young artist best known for crafting with paper and materials from nature. Her art has a meaning that goes beyond the literal.
“I wanted to create a tunnel of new beginnings that represent a new chapter, this Raya season. It gives us all a chance to start afresh just like flowers that grow and bloom.
“May the Raya festivities bring together families and friends, young and old, to celebrate a wonderful time of the year,” said Teh.
Throughout the month of Ramadan, shoppers will relish great Raya offerings available in the mall - ranging from hampers and gifts from SAM’S Groceria, to elegant and unique headscarves from Bawal Aidijuma.
There is also the latest fashion from Parkson, to home decorations from Home’s Harmony and Comfort Bay. Remember to also check out offerings from new tenants such as Finelycup and King of Trainers.

Otherwise, take a stroll at the Agro Craft Bazaar Aidilfitri located on the Upper Ground Floor to check out the traditional wooden weaving handloom machine.
Besides that, there is also a wide variety of local delicacies, goods and crafts for your Raya shopping - such as ready-made baju Melayu and songkok from ABM Zulaikha, as well as kebayas, songket and shawls made from batik by Zunessa Collection.
