9 TRAVEL TIPS TO RUSSIA

-

1 All Malaysians need to apply for a visa to visit Russia. Many of the major travel agencies in Malaysia can help with this or head to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Malaysia website (https://malaysia.mid.ru/web/malaysia-en/main) for some basic information. On the website, it states that if you are heading to Russia specifically as a spectator of the 2018 FIFA World Cup (or any other major sporting event), you may be able to enter the country without a visa. However, you do need to obtain other documents.

2 The Russian currency is rouble, which comes in notes of 50, 100, 500, 1,000 and 5,000. There are also coins. The current rate is at RM6.40 to every 100 rouble.

3 Take note that foreign travellers are usually expected to pay higher entrance fees to many tourist sites. 4 Some parts of Russia can get extremely cold during winter. You might want to schedule your trips away from the cold season.

5 Uber services are available in major cities in Russia. The ride-hailing app also partners with a local taxi company called Yandex.

6 The Moscow Metro has many beautiful underground stations so put them on your must-visit list.

7 Volga, at 3,690km, is the longest river in Europe. It runs along five cities in the country.

8 Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain in Europe. It stands at 5,642m.

9 The Hermitage museum in St Petersburg is home to about 70 cats that guard the many exhibits from rodents.
