A fighter to the way
“Some memories are unforgettable, remaining ever vivid and heart-warming.” – Joseph B. Wirthlin
FOUR years ago, I lost a colleague whom I admired for the fighting spirit within her. Memories of her still linger on.
We would have continued to be close colleagues if not for the closure of the branch we were working in, and so we went our separate ways when we were sent to different departments within the company.
I met her the very first day I started working. Her workstation was diagonally behind mine. She was the first colleague who taught me how to use the photocopier.
I remember her as someone who was jovial and friendly. The minute I sat at my workstation, she was the first to start a conversation with, “Hi, I am your colleague.”
There was never a dull moment with her around. The only days when our section was a little sombre were when she was on leave.
She was also stylish with the way she tied her headscarf. And she was open-minded, too.
I will never forget how strongwilled and indomitable she was, especially when she was battling the Big C. Everyone was amazed at the good fight she put up to the very end.
Even in her frail condition, she could still encourage me during the period when my Dad was diagnosed with the Big C. She continued to be optimistic and confident even when she was hospitalised, and she was still active on Facebook, sending me messages to “hang in there”.
I will always cherish those moments.
Kak Min, thank you for a great and unforgettable friendship.
