anOThER of Uber’s services have been handed over to Grab – with the closure of Uber Eats comes GrabFood.

in an e-mail to customers, Uber Malaysia confirms its Uber Eats app will no longer be operational from May 28.

it recommended users to migrate to the GrabFood app, softening the farewell with RM15 discount for the first two orders before June 30 with the promo code hiGRaBFOOd.

Grab Malaysia announced GrabFood is currently servicing Mont Kiara, Sri hartamas, Bukit damansara and Bangsar, as well as the heart of Kuala lumpur, including Kampung Baru, Chow Kit, Kl City Centre, Titiwangsa and Setiawangsa.

Country head Sean Goh says its localised technology will make transport and food delivery more efficient while delivering a seamless experience for users by unifying its GrabPay payments platform and GrabRewards loyalty programme.

“The expansion of GrabFood in Malaysia will bring the best of Malaysia’s kitchens to more consumers, and provide more income opportunities for local merchants and delivery-partners,” he said in a press statement.

GrabFood has signed up over 300 merchants such as KGB, Baba low’s, la Juiceria Superfood Cafe, Sala, Steak and lobsters, humble Chef, inside Scoop, and devi’s Corner.

“With GrabFood, we want to serve every palate and craving, and provide a platform for food vendors to come online and reach a wider customer base,” says Goh.

he claims that the company’s research shows that its delivery service generates substantial extra revenue, especially for small businesses whose shops or stalls are located in remote and underserved areas with minimal human traffic.

With GrabFood, users are not required to make a minimum order but they will be charged a fixed delivery fee of RM5.

Users can also schedule orders up to five days in advance, in case they have to host a party or have very structured lives.

Users will need a Grab account to login to and they will be rewarded with GrabRewards points at a rate of five points for every RM1 spent.

On March 26, Grab confirmed it acquired Uber’s South-East asia operations to merge both ridehailing companies’ operations in the region.

Under the agreement, Grab acquired all of Uber’s operations including food delivery service Uber Eats, while Uber in return gets a 27.5% stake in Grab and its chief executive officer dara Khosrowshahi joined Grab’s board.
