Ducati Scrambler 1100

- - JAY WONG

NEXT Bike, the sole distributor of Ducati motorcycles in Malaysia, has unveiled the larger Scrambler 1100 to complement the 800 and 400cc Sixty2 models. The Scrambler is available in two variants, starting with the Special at RM83,000 (on-theroad without insurance and 0% GST) in ‘Custom Grey’ livery - gold-coloured anodised adjustable front fork sleeves with black frame as well as 18-inch (front) and 17-inch (rear) black-spoked aluminium wheels.

The Sport is priced similarly at RM85,000 and features a ‘Viper Black’ livery - yellow side tank trims, dual centre yellow strips for the tank and mudguards, black frame as well as 18-inch (front) and 17-inch (rear) 10-spoke black alloy wheels.

The bikes are covered by a two-year warranty with unlimited mileage and Ducati Smart Service Programme.

The programme includes free service for parts and lubricants only, for up to 30,000km as well as Demodromic service (labour charges not included).

Customers who place a booking from now until the Ducati Reddest Weekend (Aug 4 to 5) will enjoy a special SST exemption.

With a wet weight of 211kg (206kg - Sport), the bike has a wheelbase of 1,514mm (front 24.5-degree rake with rear 111mm trailing arms), and stands 2,190mm-long, 920mm-wide and 1,290mm-high (810mm saddle height).

A 15-litre fuel tank feeds a revised 1,079cc Demodue V-twin two-valve air/oil cooled engine from the Monster 1100 EVO - for its mid-range grunt, which produces 86hp at 7,500rpm and 88Nm of torque at 4,750rpm.

The exhaust is a 2-1-2 system with twin stainless steel mufflers, aluminium covers and end caps fitted with a catalytic converter and two lambda probes.

The engine’s 55mm throttle-body is managed by the Ride-by-Wire system - married to a six-speed (wet-clutch) manual transmission, which can be further tailored via its four-level traction control (including off ) and three riding modes of Active (86hp), Journey (86hp) and City (75hp).

Regardless of variant, the Scrambler 1100’s standard fitment includes front and rear LED lights and a digital instrument cluster (with gear and fuel-level) that’s reminiscent of the original 1970’s.

Also included is the steel tank with interchangeable aluminium side panels, machine-finished aluminium belt covers and an under-seat storage compartment with USB port.

The Special uses a 45mm fully-adjustable Marzocchi up-side-down front fork and a rear KYB mono-shock absorber with adjustable pre-load and rebound.

The Sport variant gets a larger 48mm front up-side-down fork and rear mono-shock with adjustable pre-load and adjustable rebound from Ohlins.

Braking comes from the four-piston Brembo Monobloc M4.32 callipers with dual320mm semi-floating discs (front) and single-piston floating calliper with 245mm disc brake (rear). The 18-inch (front) and (17-inch rear) wheels are fitted with 120/80 (front) and 180/55 Pirelli MT 60 RS tyres.

For safety, both variants come with Cornering ABS (Bosch) integrated with Dynamic Traction Control.

“The Scrambler 1100 aims to meet the needs of even the most demanding motorbike enthusiast. Global sales have soared past 46,000 units since its introduction in 2015 and now, the Ducati Scrambler 1100’s arrival in Malaysia completes our Scrambler line-up,” said Naza Corporation Holdings (Automotive Group) group CEO Datuk Samson Anand George.
