Taylor-ed for success

-

Interested in engineering and information technology? Or want to experience what journalism is like while studying finance? Come by taylor’s Lakeside Campus on August 11 and 12 and see how unusual pairings like these are now available thanks to taylor’s Curriculum Framework, taylor’s University’s disruptive approach to education.

Visitors to taylor’s during these two days will be able to talk to counsellors about customising their education as well take part in a number of activities, specially curated to pique the interest of youth and assist with realising their passion in life.

In keeping with taylor’s University’s effort to equip students with critical-thinking skills that empower them to solve pressing global issues, taylor’s has partnered with impact-driven enterprise Me.reka to enable visitors to contribute towards the development of a “microhouse” – a home that fits into two parking bays.

the double-storey microhouse will be built by 25 selected volunteers within two days. there will also be a number of workshops revolving around six topics that participants can sign up for to assist with the development of the home.

the microhouse is the highlight activity for the Future Movement Open day, a unique two-day experiential event with the underlying theme of “defying Conventions”.

In addition to this anchor activity, taylor’s University has organised a range of interactive and entrepreneurial sessions that are based on three key pillars: explore, evolve and express.

this unique approach to curating your own journey of acquiring information while attending this disruptive approach to selecting your university is in keeping with taylor’s Curriculum Framework.

those choosing to partake in the activities organised under the “explore” theme are able to hear from eight notable personalities on how they defied convention in their respective professions.

the speakers for the afternoon sessions include Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil, CeO and co-founder of Grub Cycle – a social supermarket dedicated to reducing food waste – redza shahid, co-founder and CeO of dahmakan – a fully vertically integrated food delivery start-up based in Malaysia and thailand – Jonathan Weins and more.

through the “evolve” theme, visitors can join hands-on workshops on rainwater harvesting system, edible garden, solar panels system, Internet of things, interior design and decorations.

the products developed through these six sessions will be incorporated into the design of the microhouse.

As part of this theme as well, there will be a showcase of four selected clubs and societies; AIeseC, Girl Up, tradisi and the taylor’s University symphony Orchestra.

Visitors can also join in workshops by the taylor’s Life skills Facilitators, which will take place throughout the weekend.

through activities organised under this theme, visitors get to explore what drives them and what they want to be.

the aim of the theme is to challenge and inspire students to do something different while building their 21st century skills, which include thinking critically, creatively and solving problems for social intelligence.

Activities organised under the “express” theme allow students to express and realise their individual self through art and entertainment.

they can immerse themselves in two culinary showcases that are beyond the norm and challenges the senses – “Molecular Gastronomy: Avant-Garde elitist sensory revelation and Culinology Future On-demand: Condito-Aquaspaera” (flavour-water-spheres).

extending the event into saturday night is an exclusive unplugged concert with a line-up of local artistes such as Kyoto Protocol, talitha tan, Airliftz and sid Murshid among others, who have defied conventions through their music.

taylor’s Future Movement Open day aims to be the platform where the passion of youth can be connected to a deeper purpose. this two-day event gives students a great start in their journey of exploring what makes them passionate while strengthening their capabilities.

they can also learn about the different career possibilities by talking to counsellors who will be on hand to provide proper guidance.
