Keeping up with consumer trends
IN the business world, there is a pressing need to produce future human capital who are not only equipped in knowledge and exposure to working soft skills at the workplace, but are also prepared to address the rapid changes in consumer behaviour trends, which are influenced by an environment that converges real-world and digital realities.
The changes in behaviour trends driven by technology advancements have also led to a shift in consumer experiences and values.
Many consumers are moving outside the marketing funnel by changing the way they weigh options and make purchase decisions. Filling the needs of consumers can be a daunting task with the consumer decision journey becoming gradually more complex.
Graduates nowadays need the ability to address the rapidly changing trends in consumer behaviour.
SEGi’s Troy ADP programme
SEGi Group of Colleges chief executive officer Dr Lisa Tan said the Troy University American Degree Programme (ADP) helps lay the foundation in preparing students to become globally competitive and aware of various issues.
“A good example is our ADP, which is held in collaboration with Troy University, the top Alabama state university. This programme offers a learning experience that breaks away from the conventional exam-based education system, focusing on continuous learning via coursework.
“Such a comprehensive approach is effective in measuring students’ know-how through actual application of coursework and case study,” she said.
The Troy ADP programme is structured to teach students to be more independent, confident, assertive and creative, with 70% of their assessment based on presentations.
Students in SEGi Colleges can opt to major in global business, psychology or communication, with additional emphasis on consumer behaviour and related subjects such as global marketing, business and industrial marketing.
“Our students also conduct research and are exposed to the application of technology apart from seminars, talks and workshops given by visiting professors from Troy University.
“As such, we prepare our students to be critical and alert in identifying consumer trends in the industry and around the globe,” said Dr Tan.
A majority of ADP programmes in Malaysia are credit transfer programmes, which require students to spend a certain amount of time studying here before transferring to another university in the United States or Canada.
One of the main advantages of studying ADP with Troy University in SEGi is that it offers a full 4+0 option, which enables students to complete the entire degree in Malaysia while having the option of transferring to Troy University.
Flexible study routes
For the ADP, SEGi offers two flexible study routes where students can enrol after SPM/O-Levels or STPM/A-Levels.
For entry through the former, students are required to have a minimum of five credits, while for the STPM/A-Levels entry point, they are required to have two principles or equivalent.
Those who enrol using STPM/ A-Levels can also request credit exemptions.
“Our graduates are equipped with the necessary skills to embark on successful careers in fields such as international business, management, psychology, mass communication, finance and entrepreneurship.
“They can also facilitate the integration of knowledge by taking a variety of classes in different fields such as literature, sciences, social sciences and arts,” added Dr Tan.
