Miguel only ever had one dream, which is to be like his idol Ernesto De La Cruz, a famous musician. Easier said than done, especially when his family have banned music in their family for generations. Desperate to prove that he can be like his idol, Miguel joins a talent show on the Day of the Dead festival, despite his family’s disapproval, and even breaks into Ernesto’s mausoleum to ‘borrow’ his old guitar. However, as soon as he strums the guitar, Miguel enters the Land of the Dead and becomes invisible to the living. The guys attract the interest of a wealthy investor, Bert Hanson, who promises to fund them only to end up stealing their idea instead. With the wheels of production fully in motion, the guys are now in a ton of debt. Choosing to ignore their previous history with hackneyed schemes, they decide to kidnap Bert’s son, Rex Hanson to use him to get ransom money.
