Venture into a trusted profession
DO you want to play a part in improving people’s lives through medicine? Are you interested in interacting with healthcare professionals in various settings? If your answer to both questions is a resounding “yes”, you may want to consider a career in pharmacy.
A pharmacist serves her patients and community by delivering services such as managing medication supplies and providing information and advice on health. She is also engaged in the preparation, dispensing and appropriate use of medication.
Pharmacists must learn about the chemistry, evolution and procedures involved in developing, preparing and administering medication. This knowledge allows them to be experts in understanding the effects and use of drugs in preventing and treating diseases.
With a pharmacy degree, you can expect to pursue a career in patient education, retail or chain community pharmacy ownership or management, hospital practice, consulting for nursing homes, government health services, research, sales, drug administration, academics or marketing.
International Medical University (IMU) is a private university that achieved 6 Star: Outstanding status in the Rating for Higher Education Institutions in Malaysia 2017.
Students can complete the IMU pharmacy programme locally or transfer their credits to University of Otago, New Zealand, or University of Tasmania, Australia.
These international partnerships are testament to the way IMU’s innovative education practices align with global standards. Taught by an experienced, practising faculty, you will be given relevant professional exposure as part of the pharmacy course. This is to better prepare you for employment, patient care and pupillage training, making you highly employable as an IMU graduate.
The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) programme integrates the study of human bodily systems in health and disease with the study of drug treatment. Students will be systematically exposed to pharmacy practices in the community and industry as well as hospitals.
Core disciplines such as pharmacology, pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry and microbiology are supplemented with subjects in health education and promotion, dispensing skills, and behavioural aspects of practice.
Semester 7 of the programme is devoted to research to help students develop scientific ethos and rigour.
The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) programme commences in July and September. Despite being a local programme, students studying for this degree can go overseas for elective placements.
Studying pharmacy at IMU also provides an opportunity for students to integrate themselves with other health sciences programmes. This gives them a platform for interprofessional learning and close friendships, and sets a foundation that may lead to business partnerships after graduation.
