Education via innovative pathways
TUNKU Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) has carved a reputation for its academic excellence and holistic education. Its respectable track record is correlated with its innovative pathway that has been refined along with changes in the market and industry needs to shape tomorrow’s leaders.
After SPM, there are two pathways for school-leavers. Those preferring to prepare academically for undergraduate studies may start with a pre-university programme. TAR UC offers foundation as well as A-Levels.
The foundation programme is an intensive one-year programme that prepares students to progress seamlessly onto TAR UC’s bachelor degree programmes.
Meanwhile, A-Levels is a one-anda-half-year pre-university programme that builds a strong foundation for bachelor degree programmes in TAR UC or many other universities worldwide. Upon completion of either, students can proceed to enter Year 1 of TAR UC’s three- or four-year bachelor degree programme subject to meeting minimum entry requirement.
TAR UC’s diploma programmes are for school-leavers with a clear direction in what they want to pursue in their career. TAR UC offers over 50 specialised diploma programmes delivered by seven faculties. The duration ranges from two to two and a half years. Upon completion, students will be given credit transfer that will enable them to enter Year 2 of the corresponding bachelor degree programme subject to meeting minimum entry requirement.
The diploma and bachelor degree programmes are highly intensive and aim to develop critical skills required by the industries and are also accredited by many global and local professional bodies.
Meanwhile, school-leavers with STPM/UEC qualifications can proceed directly to Year 1 of the bachelor degree programme in TAR UC subject to meeting minimum entry requirements.
The Dual Award arrangement is offered for a number of bachelor degree programmes with partner universities such as Campbell University the US and Coventry University the UK. This offers students an invaluable overseas learning experience while obtaining two bachelor’s degrees, one from TAR UC and the other from the partner university either by completing the programme fully in TAR UC or spending one semester at the partner university overseas.
TAR UC now also offers postgraduate programmes – Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Investment Management (MIM), Master of Corporate Governance (MCG) and Master of Science in the areas of life sciences and physical science.
The MBA, MIM and MCG are taught master’s programmes designed to develop business leaders of tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the three research-based programmes – Master of Science, Master of Science (Life Science) and Master of Engineering Science provide an avenue for students to be involved in groundbreaking research projects. TAR UC will be offering more master’s and doctorate programmes soon.
