Do your medical degree in Russia

-

THE time has come for students who completed SPM, Pre-U, and foundation programmes to decide their tertiary education pathways.

A popular choice for many is medicine, with students and their parents yearning for the MD or MBBS certification.

But, students with excellent results often lose their placement in local medical schools due to the limited seats available.

These students end up taking courses that are not their choice as studying medicine in local private universities and medical schools abroad are expensive and not many parents can afford to finance.

An alternative choice is to study in Russia, a popular destination for medical studies.

Many of the Russian cities feature prominent universities with centuries-old education traditions set within a safe environment.

The self-funded study in Russian universities is cheaper than counterparts in the United States, the United Kingdom, Western Europe and Australia – yet, leading Russian universities can compete in terms of quality, with educational institutions in the west.

Courses conducted fully in English and top Russian qualifications are internationally recognised.

Supervisory programmes

Supervisory programmes are arranged for first-year students and there is an established network of student communities and association bodies.

Students in Russia will go through six years of medical studies. The first three years are focused on theoretical knowledge, while the final three are on clinical rotations.

Students are posted to various top hospitals with excellent facilities and lessons taught by the best doctors in the country.

Yet parents wonder how Russian education can offer quality at a relatively low price.

The reason is the Russian government largely subsidises education for both local citizens and foreigners.

The low tuition fee payable to the medical university there does not mean that education is lower than other European nations.

It is a safe country to be in with a low crime rate compared to other western or central European countries.

Students can also take part in sports activities, with an annual inter-varsity sports games between all Malaysianrecognised universities in Russia. Students get to represent their universities and travel across cities to participate in the games.
