This amazing app lets you see your future face

-

DO you normally skip your SPF skincare step or apply as and when you remember? Then it’s time to download the Sunface UV Selfie app for you to have an idea of what skipping SPF or exposing your skin to UV does to your skin.

You can literally see how your skin ages with wrinkles and fine lines, and how it is affected should you get skin cancer that is UV-induced.

And, it’s totally creepy – but, the good kind of creepy to help you rethink your skincare habits and UV exposure.

Created by Titus J. Brinker, MD, a dermatologist from Essen University Hospital in Germany, this app aims to induce behavioural change and prevent skin cancer especially among youths who frequently use sunbeds or are prone to sunburns from lack of protection.

All you have to do is take a selfie and then choose from the three categories of whether you apply “daily sun protection”, “no sun protection” and “weekly sunbed”. You can then see the effects on your skin within five to 25 years.

Touch the sunglasses icon and you will get advice on how to prevent skin cancer and premature ageing of the skin, and there’s also a pictorial summary of what happens to various parts of your face when you don’t have sun protection for 15 years.

“Research shows that the main motivation for the use of sunbeds is the strong belief that tanning makes you attractive. The opposite is the case. Adequate sun protection and staying away from sunbeds does both: Preventing skin ageing and malignant melanoma,” says Dr Brinker in a PR Newswire report.

While you’re staring in disbelief or in awe of your future face, try touching your lips on the screen for a little surprise! If you’re hooked then check out Dr Brinker’s other app called the Smokerface – that lets you see your future face if you smoke, and it’s not looking pretty! – Sandra Low
