Showing Malaysia some love

TO commemorate the upcoming National Day, Starbucks has unveiled a special collection of merchandise created in partnership with Malaysian fashion designer Rico Rinaldi.

It draws inspiration from three iconic animals – the tiger, turtle and hornbill. Colours that are reminiscent of Malaysia’s heritage and flag, as well as its diverse flora and fauna help round out the designs.

“Designing this collection, I was inspired by Malaysia’s rich nature. I am thankful to Starbucks for this unique opportunity to commemorate our 61st National Day,” commented Rico.

The 30-year-old is known for his exquisite workmanship and attention to detail. His aesthetic speaks of a refined taste, with designs that are both feminine and bold at the same time.

Starbucks has a history of partnerships with fashion designers, previously collaborating with international names like Anna Sui and Vivienne Tam. The Rico Rinaldi x Starbucks collection however, is exclusive to Malaysia.

“We are excited to introduce this collection, the first Starbucks partnership with a Malaysian designer,” said Sydney Quays, Berjaya Food Berhad CEO and managing director of Starbucks Malaysia and Brunei.

“The designs that Rico shared with us celebrates a very important part of Malaysia, and we are thrilled to be able to share that message through our merchandise for Merdeka this year.”

The Rico Rinaldi x Starbucks collection includes a set of mugs and thermos tumblers in three different designs. It will be available in-stores beginning Aug 31 across Malaysia.
