Expanding Fattah’s universe
FATTAH Amin is getting married again.
Well, not that kind of marriage. (You can breathe easy, Fazura).
Fattah said yes to a 360 talent management deal with Universal Music Malaysia last month.
“Early this year, I tried to manage my career on my own but after a few months, I felt I couldn’t do it alone,” says the 27-year-old actor-singer who finished his management contract with a local agency last year.
The two-year 360 management deal means Universal will plot his acting career, and negotiate his endorsement deals besides furthering his music goals.
“When I self-managed, I couldn’t organise my time properly. I was focused on my acting and forgot about the other aspects of my career.”
He adds Universal also arranges for vocal lessons and language classes for him to hone his talents.
While the fact that wife Fazura is signed with the same company serves a plus point
(“It makes it easier to plan our schedule”),
Fattah says the decision to join Universal is entirely his own.
“As an international company, Universal can help me further my career to other countries. For example, there are plans to push me to the Indonesian market.”
Currently, Fattah just started filming the hotly-anticipated 24-episode mega drama Isteri
Untuk Disewa, helmed by revered film director Osman Ali. He also has another 30% of filming left on the Syamsul Yusof film Mat Kilau.
At the same time, Fattah is gathering material for his debut album, which will comprise past hits such as Wanita Terakhir and 1234U
as well as other new tracks.
“Last year, I acted non-stop. I was in backto-back dramas. It was all about quantity. This year, I want to focus on quality,” he shares.
“If you look at Fazura’s career, how she is able to stay relevant even after 16 years in the industry, it has to do with the fact that she’s very selective. She goes for projects that suit her.”
Besides Fattah’s solo album, he will release a separate duet album with Fazura. The lovebirds have recorded a song together, Cinderella, previously. This marks their first project as husband and wife. Working together so closely, are they worried their personal relationship would suffer should a professional disagreement arise? Fazura comments: “There could be certain things that I don’t agree with for my own branding and things he doesn’t agree for his own branding as well, but it’s about meeting in the middle and agreeing to something we both like.” Fattah adds: “Being husband and wife means you have to give in sometimes. We could have arguments but it’s important to patch things up.”
