TODAY TO SUNDAY: The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur is showcasing different movies daily, except Friday, starting today, for its Japanese Film Festival. Admission is free, but prior booking is required and seats are limited to two pax per name. The films are in Japanese, with English subtitles.
Sept 6: Heart Of Taiko ,a 60-minute documentary about three teenagers working hard to master Japanese drumming. Time: 8.20pm (registration starts at 8pm).
Sept 8: Check out Lim Kah Wai’s 2011 feature film New World, starring Shi Ka, Tomonaga Koumei and Ogawa Takeru. Time: 2.30pm (Registration starts at 2pm).
Sept 8: Lim’s 2013 feature Fly Me To Minami revolves around four people with different backgrounds, who end up in Osaka for work. Time: 5.10pm (Registration starts at 4.45pm).
Sept 9: Director Edmund Yeo is no stranger to the Tokyo International Film Festival, having been nominated there a couple of times, will share two of his short films: Kingyo (2009) and Exhalation (2010). Time: 3.20pm (Registration starts at 3pm).
The producers/directors will participate in the Q&A session after their respective movies.

SEPT 14: Don’t miss the chance to catch British stand-up comedian Jimmy Carr performing in KL. What’s more, for this show, he is bringing in all of his greatest material. Don’t believe us? Just look at the title of this show – it says “the best of ” – so you know you’ll be laughing to some of his top jokes.
The 45-year-old has won the British Comedy Award for Best Live Stand-Up Tour and been nominated for the Perrier Award.

SEPT 15: Bao En Dharma Vihara is organising a charity concert to support children showing interest in Buddhist studies, and creating a safe and healthy environment for them to study in.

SATURDAY: Voices of Penang Philharmonic, a choir under the banner of Penang Philharmonic Orchestra, will be performing in this concert. Proceeds will go towards supporting Penang’s disadvantaged community. Most of the pieces like Ave Maria and Plenty Good Room (On the Glory Train) will be performed a cappella.
The concert is organised by St George’s Church Penang.

organising a fun-filled Memory Walk with a learning trail to engage participants and raise awareness of persons with dementia and their caregivers.
There is also a treasure hunt, to further raise awareness of dementia and educate participants in risk reduction activities.
There will be presentations, forums and demos by local and foreign experts on Alzheimer’s disease.

NOW UNTIL SEPT 28: Malaysian citizens residing in Klang Valley, who are 40 years old or above, with no history of bone fractures for the recent two years, and have not been diagnosed with osteoporosis, are eligible for the metabolic and bone health screening at this centre. At the screening, the participant will get to check their blood glucose, blood pressure, blood cholesterol, height, weight, body fat estimation, waist circumference, assessment of osteoporosis and bone mineral density. A free consultation will also be available.
Take note that if you want to do the screening, then you have to fast for at least eight hours prior.
