Remembering Michael Jackson: Children mark King Of Pop’s 60th birthday.

-

NINE years after the death of the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson’s children and other family members came together to launch an auction, accept a posthumous award and remember the singer on what would have been his 60th birthday.

His children Paris and Prince Jackson (pic), his brothers Tito and Jackie, and R&B singer Usher joined some 1,500 guests in Las Vegas on Aug 29 for a performance of the Cirque du Soleil show One, based on music by the Thriller singer.

Jackson died in Los Angeles in June 2009 after an accidental overdose of the powerful anesthetic propofol that he was using as a sleep aid.

His personal doctor, Conrad Murray, served two years in prison for causing his death through negligence.

Paris, 20, and Prince, 21, accepted the Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation Legacy Award for their father. Taylor, who died in 2011, was a close friend of the singer, and Paris is an ambassador for the Foundation.

“It is a privilege and honour to be here about something that my dad was so passionate about,” Prince said.

The siblings also launched an auction for a newly created pair of ruby and diamond-studded sneakers that are expected to fetch more than US$50,000 (RM206,000) at a November sale.

The money will go to Taylor’s Aids foundation.

Updated suit

Hugo Boss is reissuing a limited-edition version of the iconic white suit worn by Jackson on the cover of his Thriller album.

As well as being jam-packed with hits, the late singer’s 1982 record, Thriller –one of the 20th century’s landmark albums – also has an iconic cover, featuring the superstar wearing a white Hugo Boss suit.

In honour of what would have been his 60th birthday on Aug 29, the German fashion label is reissuing the famous white suit in a limited drop of just 100, selling for US$1,195 (RM5,000) apiece, according to the New York Times .

The American newspaper also reports that the reissued suit has been updated with a slightly narrower cut, but still features two pleats on the pants and three mother-of-pearl buttons on the jacket cuffs.

Hugo Boss is also releasing three commemorative t-shirts featuring images of the star.

Jackson’s estate and Imax are partnering to digitally remaster Michael Jackson’s Thriller 3D into Imax 3D.

The partnership was announced last week. It will be released in Imax theatres across the United States for one week, beginning Sept 21.

The estate’s co-executors say Jackson loved to give his fans the “latest and greatest in technology and entertainment experiences.”

The short film, directed by John Landis, premiered in Los Angeles in 1983. The 3D version was first shown at the 74th Venice Film Festival in 2017.

The remastered release precedes the launch of Amblin Entertainment’s fantasy film, The House With A Clock In Its Walls, starring Jack Black and Cate Blanchett.
