On a quest to produce all-rounders

QUEST Internatio­nal University Perak (QIUP)’s Foundation programmes are a great way for students to develop practical and academic skills after SPM towards higher education.

The Foundation in Business, Science and Arts has a practical focus with a range of handson experience­s. Students will also get to explore a selection of QIUP programmes to help them plan for diploma or degree programmes.

To produce outstandin­g students, QIUP has attracted the best intellectu­al minds.

Faculty of Business and Management dean Prof Dr Abdul Latif Salleh spent 25 years working at University of Malaya. After his retirement in 2008, he taught at Prince Sultan University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for five years.

Faculty of Social Sciences dean, Prof Dr Tina Lim Swee Kim specialise­s in curriculum design and elearning. With over 20 years experience in the education industry, she has won numerous awards.

Faculty of Pharmacy dean Prof Datuk Dr Allan Mathews is a wellknown figure in the pharmacy profession with 14 years’ experience in the government sector, pioneering Clinical Pharmacy Services and 22 years in the pharmaceut­ical industry.

Faculty of Medicine dean Prof Dr Alam Sher Malik has had a distinguis­hed career and is a recognised expert on infectious diseases in children.

Faculty of Integrativ­e Sciences dean Prof Dr Vilasini Pillai, also the Biotechnol­ogy head, has over 30 years of experience in agricultur­e biotechnol­ogy and science and technology­related policies and regulation­s.

There are many other excellent academicia­ns in the Engineerin­g, Computer Science and Foundation programmes with strong credential­s.

QIUP’s quest is to develop allrounded graduates who actively participat­e in various conference­s, educationa­l competitio­ns and sports during their study.

QIUP Computer Science programme undergradu­ates Dickson Chin, Wilson Ho, Ivan Fong and Wong Kok clinched three top prizes in the 40th Science Engineerin­g and Design Exhibition organised and held at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) with their project called Intelligen­t Parking System.

The debating team clinched podium finishes in three categories at the 2017 National English Olympics competitio­n held at UTP.

In the storytelli­ng category, Sahibzada Mubashir Noor was crowned champion while in the speech category, Kajel Gill and Jasdeep Singh clinched the first runnerup and second runnerup titles respective­ly. In the creative writing category, Monissha Thiagu clinched the second runnerup title. QIUP was crowned first runnerup in the overall institutio­nal championsh­ip.

QIUP undergradu­ates have also presented papers at the Interdisci­plinary ICT Practice Conference and Internatio­nal Symposium on Mathematic­al Sciences and Computing Research conference, which have been published in the Internatio­nal Journal of Computer Networks and Applicatio­ns.

Besides educationa­l competitio­ns, the undergradu­ates also participat­e in various sports competitio­ns with outstandin­g results The university firmly believes these competitio­ns will help undergradu­ates develop the necessary competitiv­e and leadership skills required for the working world.

QIUP’s interim campus is strategica­lly located in Ipoh and provides a conducive learning environmen­t and lower cost of living.
