Jonker 88, Melaka
IF you’ve ever been to Melaka, you would probably already know just how popular its local delicacies are. A nice walk around the Jonker area and its tributary streets would yield finds such as Jonker 88, which is located on Jalan Hang Jebat.
Although listed as a dessert restaurant, the place also serves mains such as nyonya assam laksa, curry laksa and others.
Why you should go
Just like many of the heritage buildings in Melaka, Jonker 88 has a vintage feel to it. You might spot some “antique” items in the restaurant like paintings/posters, clocks and old coins/paper money. Because of that, it has often been referred to as the “museum cafe”.
Besides being an interesting place to check out, it is also a unique dining experience.
What to do
Head to Jonker 88 to fill up on delicious fare. They serve mains like rice and noodles, and desserts like ice kacang and sago gula melaka. Some of the desserts have variations with durian, mango and sea coconut.
This is a self-service restaurant. If you visit, you’ll notice that there is usually a long queue. But don’t worry, it usually moves quite fast.
The restaurant is also crowded most of the time, so do come early. If not, you might have to either share a table with other customers, or wait for an available one.
Who will like it
Tourists would probably enjoy a visit to Jonker 88. Of course, it goes without saying that foodies would like it too. After all, what could be better than cooling off on a hot day than a refreshing bowl of cendol or ice kacang?

Melaka is just a two-and-a-half hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. There are buses that run between Melaka and other major cities in Peninsular Malaysia.
