Shell aims to stamp out fake oil

TO counter fake engine oil in the market, genuine Shell Helix products meant for sale in Malaysia now come with “Made for Malaysia” labels. The new “Made for Malaysia” labels are now found on Shell Helix Ultra 5W 40 (4L), HX7 10W 40 (4L), HX7 5W 30 (4L), HX5 10W 30 (3L) and HX5 15W 40 (4L).

These five Shell Helix products are now blended and packed at Shell’s Lubricant Oil Blending Plant at Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.

The new front label can be peeled to reveal a unique QR code for quick product authentication, while the label at the back features information in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

The introduction of more products with “Made for Malaysia” labels is ongoing and is expected to be completed by January next year.

During this transition period, genuine Shell Helix products with old labels would still be on sale and can be authenticated through the unique product code on the label.

Shell Malaysia Trading managing director Shairan Huzani Husain said fake products in the market were affecting customer confidence and negatively impacting the businesses of Shell’s trade partners.

The “Made for Malaysia” Shell Helix range was officially launched by Domestic Trade and Consumerism Minister Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral last week.
