Practical, hands-on learning
THERE is an increasing demand in the area of Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) in Malaysia with plenty of career opportunities.
Upon graduation, students can look forward to work in hospitals, clinics, public health laboratories, pharmaceutical or chemical industries, biotechnology companies, veterinary clinics, public or private research laboratories, colleges and universities, transplant and blood donor centres and fertility clinics.
Even though they do not often get involved with patients, medical laboratory technologists play a crucial role in the process of providing personal care.
It is a great occupation for highly organised people who can perform the research that helps unravel the mysteries of the human body.
The Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology offered by MSU College is one of the programmes designed for students who are interested in the field of scientific discoveries and medical research.
It prepares students with a well-balanced diploma course comprising academic knowledge with hands-on practical skills which will enhance student’s understanding and expertise.
The programme is a comprehensive educational experience with training and education in all laboratory medicine levels, including Hematology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Transfusion Medicine, Cytology, and Chemical Pathology.
The three-year programme aims to produce medical laboratory technologists who are competent and capable to meet the human capital needs of the country.
MLT use their knowledge to perform tests that help physicians to diagnose, monitor and treat disease, identify the source of infection, chemical analysis, and determining the patient’s blood type as well as preparing for transfusion.
MLTs also provide numerous diagnostic and therapeutic information which is very useful to the healthcare team.
At MSU College, students will experience a holistic learning experience which builds soft skills and critical thinking skills required for a successful MLT. The curriculum combines the knowledge of integrated education, health and education science lab to produce versatile MLT equipped with adequate knowledge and skills.
Upon completion, students may proceed to a bachelor’s programme at Management & Science University (MSU) through the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences or International Medical School.
Students could also enrol in the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme through IMS either in the Shah Alam campus or in MSU’s offshore campus in Bangalore, India.
