Fly high in the sky

-

RECENTLY, Starchild asked readers to send in letters on the topic, Kites. Let’s hear what they have to say.

Dora Chan, 10, has been interested in the wau bulan since she saw people flying them on a beach in Kelantan. She thinks kites are majestic and spectacular.

“Though they were way up in the sky, I could still see them vividly. It must be because of their size and colour.

“I am told a good wau is measured by how fast they rise and can remain flying, whatever the wind condition.”

Jeremy Tan Chun Xian, 12, likes to fly his kite on the beach where the wind is the strongest. “When I fly my uniquely designed kite, it would look like a red jet flying high up in the sky.”

Younger sibling Joshua Tan Chun Xiang, six, loves the Malaysian wau. “My wau would have the colours of the rainbow with shapes like hearts and stars.

“I would fly my colourful kite on the field with my friends.”

“I like to fly my kite by the beach as it is very windy and relaxing,” says Natalie Ang XinYan, seven.

“I’d like to design a butterfly-shaped kite. It would be pink in colour. I would fly it at the park with my family on a breezy Sunday evening,” writes Yap Shin Ee, seven.

“Malaysia – as a country – can fly as high as the kite. We can be like developed countries such as the United States and Europe,” says Andrea Chong Jae ,10.

“I love penguins, so my special kite will be designed to look like a penguin,” says Tan Kate-Lynn, 10.

“Cats are cute and cuddly, so I will create a kite in the shape of a cat. I will fly my kite on the beaches of Terengganu as Daddy is from there,” writes Tan Kaye-Leigh, eight.

Tan Kye-Hanz, six, says: “My kite will be designed to look like a seal, my favourite animal.

Perhaps there is a particular restaurant that you like eating at, or a park where you go to after school or on weekends to play with your family and friends. Is it a good place to have a picnic? Do you have to pay to get in or is it a public park?

Think about all the attractions in your town and write about them or draw a picture.

Please write your name behind the drawing and the topic, My Town, on the envelope. All letters must reach us by Oct 19. Send your letters to:
