Turning heads

As a fashion accessory, headwraps are a great way to dress up your outfit and help you make a statement.

A QUICK tie and tuck. That is all that’s needed when it comes to rocking a headwrap. A simple enough accessory, yet it offers a wide range of possibilities stylewise for different occasions.

Headwraps come in a variety of colours, prints and fabrics. So it’s easy if you need to match (or deliberately contrast) the look with your outfits. Go crazy with bold shades or keep to a muted aesthetic – it’s your choice.

If you still have your reservations, know that headwraps have made a big impact on runways. Designers all over the world are sending out their models with headwraps, and yes, the style is drawing all eyes.

Marc Jacobs for example, made use of headwraps for his Spring/Summer 2018 New York Fashion Week show. Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring/Summer 2017 advertising campaign featured the same accessory.

Celebrities are also embracing the style. Erykah Badu used to be a big proponent of the headwrap. While the singer has stopped using it, the look is still very much something that she’s remembered for.

Songstress Alicia Keys is another star who has been spotted out and about with a headwrap. Same goes for our very own Yuna. The Malaysian singer is well-loved for her extremely unique look.

Tying a headwrap may seem complicated at first, but once you have gotten the method figured out – it’s actually a breeze. Do it like a knot or twist it into a bun, both ways work just as well.

Check out our how-to video (visit facebook.com/star2dotcom/videos), where Star2’s former intern Chichi Chakaipa gives you the lowdown on styling a headwrap. Who knows? Maybe you’ll get inspired to pull off the look the next time you don’t feel like doing up your hair, yet still want to turn heads.
