Excellent achievements in medicinal and life sciences
NATURAL products form one of the 20 core research interests of Management & Science University (MSU).
At the recent Innovation and Technology Exposition organised by University Malaysia Sarawak in Sarawak, a natural antifungal cream innovation called Dermacol bagged MSU a gold medal along with the highest mark in the Medical category.
The cream’s antifungal betel leaf ingredient proves an effective inhibitor of the fungus Trichophyton rubrum, which manifests on skin, hair and nails in fungal infections.
Dermacol had won another gold at the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) organised by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society.
The product was formulated by MSU’s International Medical School researcher Dr Muhd Ridzuan Pauzi, who also bagged a silver for MSU in the Medicinal and Life Sciences category at InTEX 2018.
The second medal was for another betelbased formulation called Betelnizer. While the leaf-extract ingredient raises commercial demand for betel leaf’s local crop cultivation, the product also significantly lowers costs through the otherwise high percentage of alcohol that it substitutes.
Preceding the InTEX silver, Betelnizer had won a gold at the Research and Innovation Week Terengganu.
