ASKING children what they want to be when they grow up can prove challenging. Between the many choices they have counted, children may unconsciously conform to society’s expectations.

However, they should be taking charge and be brave enough to pursue a path of their own choice.

As such, Sri Bestari International School (SBIS) has kick-started a series of Tag Talks. TAG represents the brand, value and identity, which leads to one of the pivotal questions in life children themselves need to answer, “Who am I?”

Tag Talks aim to inspire students by exposing them to success stories shared by individuals from various industries who dared to be different and face challenges with grit.

SBIS principal Dr Wong Siew Chin shared that children should be reminded to remain true to themselves and be intentional in building their own identity – to know their calling in life, to learn how to do it well and to create value in the world.

In SBIS, students understand the need to take charge and fundamentally be grounded on embracing a growth mindset with grit.

For the past academic year, Bestarians were exposed to various stories from all walks of life.

It was with great reverence towards these experiences that the students conveyed their thoughts how Tag Talks fed them with knowledge, meaning, motivation, a vivid imagination and exploration.

“It has made me realise that nothing is impossible if you try hard,” a Year 7 Bestarian said.

“Tag Talks impacted me greatly as I realise now how successful people work very hard and that they went through countless challenges,” another Year 7 student exclaimed.

Tag Talks are not just to shape an inspiration for students, but also to show them they can be successful and at the same time, create a great sense of achievement, a cause or an awareness.

An excellent example would be the Picha Project co-founder, Suzanne Ling, who believed so much in helping refugees, she and her co-founders built a sustainable business for a good cause.

The Picha Project delivers traditional meals to customers made by refugee families from marginalised groups.

Listening to Ling’s talk really inspired many students from SBIS and gained a lot of personal reflective responses.

There’s so much learning and growing children need as they develop throughout the years and SBIS is committed in developing global leaders who will embrace a growth mindset and be determined to make a difference throughout the whole world, no matter which horizon they’ve set their sights upon.

SBIS students have the opportunity to listen to great stories and understand they are definitely the author of their own stories. To put it strongly, “It is the Journey of Realisation that Determines the Students’ Destination”.

SBIS is a fully owned subsidiary of Land and General Berhad. The school believes in combining the best people and the best learning approaches to empower young minds.
