Homemade beauty remedies

While cosmetic brands tout products made with natural ingredient­s that promise youthful-looking skin, you can whip up homemade potions with food in the kitchen to pamper and nourish your skin. here are some ingredient­s which can be used to concoct beauty fixes.

Eggs

Whip some egg yolks for a firming and nourishing face mask. leave the beaten yolks on your face for about 15 minutes or until the mask hardens, then rinse with cool water.

Strawberry

Strawberri­es are rich in alpha-hydroxy acids, which help clear acne and reduce oil.

Cut off the stems and chop the strawberri­es into tiny pieces, then mash into a paste. Apply a layer to your face for at least 15 minutes. Rinse with cool water.

Avocado

Avocados contain fatty acids that soften and moisturise your skin. Mash half a ripe avocado and apply a thin layer to your face and neck. Use as above.

Cucumber

Slice a cucumber and chill them to make natural refreshing eye pads. leave them on the eye area for 10 minutes or as long as you wish.

Tea bag

This is said to work wonders for tired eyes. Steep two tea bags in hot water, remove from the water, and let them cool. Squeeze the tea bags dry then chill them. When they are chilled, lie down and place them over your eyes.

Oatmeal

Put a handful of oats in a washcloth and soak it in a basin of warm water until the water turns cloudy. Use this water to cleanse your face and body. — The Straits Times / Asia News Network
