Top-quality studies in Scotland
INTERNATIONAL students at the University of Dundee rated their overall satisfaction at more than 93%, one of the highest scores in the most recent International Student Barometer (ISB).
With feedback from over three million students worldwide across all student types, levels and years of study, the ISB is the world’s largest annual survey of international students.
Overall satisfaction among Dundee students rose from 90.9% to 93.75% over the latest ISB survey period. This meant it recorded the third highest score out of the 31 UK universities that took part and was ranked seventh among the 120 universities worldwide in the survey.
Dundee had the highest score globally for “satisfaction with Support” at 96.6% and for “satisfaction with Living”, it was highest in the UK and third globally at 92.5%.
International vice-principal Wendy Alexander said, “We are really proud of offering a firstclass experience to international students. Making students feel truly welcome when they are miles from home is our mission.
“Embarking on a degree in another country is often the biggest investment an international student and their family will make in decades.
“By delivering a global top 10 experience, the university is demonstrating that Dundee is a city of discovery for the world’s best and brightest who want to realise their future ambitions.
“We have become a place where international students can quickly feel welcome as they see faces and speak to others who have made the same journey as them.”
One of these students is Farrah Mohd Zin from Malaysia, who is studying Biological Sciences. She said, “I’ve been exposed to a lot of practical, hands-on applications, which actually train students to be better at practical skills.
“The best thing about the university is the staff. I like how they are always ready to help us, especially international students. They ensure that we feel welcome here.”
As well as bringing students to Dundee from around the world, there are increasing opportunities for staff and students to take the journey in the opposite direction from Dundee to China, Singapore and Malaysia.
“We are a Scottish university through and through, but we are also very much an international one, engaged with students from over 140 countries and with staff from every corner of the globe,” said Alexander.
“Our growing links with China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and other countries are valuable to us. A 21st century university isn’t just a seat of learning, though we do that very well with a Gold Award for Teaching Excellence.
“We are a place for creating and nurturing cultural understanding, of encouraging diversity and equality, where people can enjoy shared experiences while embracing their own personal development. This is at the heart of international education.”
