Picking the right gym

-

JOINING a fitness club or a gym is simple; the problem is that spending the money isn’t motivating. In fact, for many of us, spending the money is somehow the equivalent of actually working out – which means it’s actually counterproductive. If you’re keen to add a bit of exercise to your routine, here are some tips that will help you pick a place you want to go to.

Location

If you have to travel far to get there, you will eventually end up not going as you will be making all kinds of excuses. So make sure that your gym is five minutes from the house. And look for one that has easy parking facilities that match the times the gym is open.

Find your match

You want to be comfortable, so find a place where you feel good. Are you a no-frills person? Or do you want piped music, aromatherapy and a juice bar? Do you want to work out with lots of people or are you a loner? Survey clubs as you would a partner by visiting at times you would work out. If it doesn’t feel right, move on.

Equipment maintenance You’re going to be working out here, so check the equipment – and the showers. Some clubs look good when it comes to machines but don’t have adequate showers, lockers or cubicles. So check the place out like you’re going to live there.

Read the fine print

The brochure is going to tell you how wonderful everything is but it may not relate to the actual contract. Make sure you know how to get in and out. Look for sneaky “severance fees” and Google the gym for reviews or feedback. Rather than hand over your credit card, keep control by setting a monthly transfer with your bank.
