Adrift on the Sea of Legends

-

IT was a dark and stormy night. The boat sailed through the storm and into the mist.

The sailors thought going into the mist would take them home. But once the mist cleared and the storm calmed down, it was clear that they were still at sea.

But this wasn’t any ordinary sea. The sailors saw jagged rocks jutting from the water. It had a strange shade of colour that the sailors found hard to describe.

It was the mystical and terrifying Sea of Legends.

The captain was puzzled, wondering how he landed up in this bewitching place. How in the world did he get here when many had failed?

The sailors screamed loudly for the Sea of Legends was a terrible place, especially at night.

Some sailors jumped overboard. Others knelt and prayed.

The captain commanded, “Row the boat away from this terrible place!”

The sailors tried to turn back, rowing as hard as they could. They were powered by the adrenaline from their fear. But the current was too strong, and the wind too weak.

Suddenly, a dragon arose from the sea. He was the colour of the sea and seemed bigger than Mount Everest.

Everyone shivered in fear. The captain shouted, “Who are you?”

As if to answer his question, the dragon turned into a watery form of himself, and back again.

The captain gasped, “NO! It can’t be! You are the dragon...”

“Merciless,” the dragon answered.

The dragon raised its paws, with talons outstretched and struck at the boat.

The boat was now in miniscule pieces.

One by one, Merciless picked the sailors up and gobbled them down. At last, he came to the captain. He whispered something mean and hateful in his ear and then squashed him like a human squashes a tiny pea.

Merciless gave a loud roar and then went back down into the unknown mysterious deep depths of the earth, never to be seen again.

But you can find him again, if you read the mysteries of the Sea of Legends. – Bryan Rau, 11.
